GoodBye From RSC - Posted by RaPToR @ 11:19 a.m. EST
Sorry I haven't posted any news in a month. i stopped working on this site because the Rogue Spear hype has toned down and I did not feel like working on a sitw with a dead topic. That's why I moved on to a new site, Gamers-edge.net. I also was accepted to work at SportPlanet.com, and possibly TacticalPlanet, so I will not be in this site anymore. I might make a post once in a while, and I will leave the site up for whoever wants to look around. You can check up on the latest gaming news at Gamers-Edge. So goodbye for now, give me an e-mail for whatever you want, if you want me to post something on Gamers-Edge or see my name at another site. Goodbye Rogue Spear fans...IT'S BEEN REAL!

The interview is based on press material distributed at E3 2000 and is the most informative article on the internet about Covert Ops. Rogue Spear Rap Song - Posted by RaPToR @ 8:38 a.m. EST
As you may have already known, Lunatyk has made a very unique rap song about Rogue Spear, entitled "Rainbow Six: Back to the Desktop". Anyway, download the "Rainbow Six: Back to the Desktop" rap song here (Note: This song is in MP3 Format).

Korean Urban Ops Released - Posted by RaPToR @ 8:32 a.m. EST
The Korean version of the Urban Operations mission pack has been released in, you guessed it, Korea. LAN "Party" - Posted by RaPToR @ 8:14 a.m. EST
The 3DRetreat guys Retreat have been trying to set up a LAN party. This message goes out to anyone in the Dallas, TX area that might be interested in attending a LAN party on Saturday, June 3rd. They are moving this LAN party to a local convention center with space for 30 people, possibly a few more. The admission they are charging is $10 and will run from 12pm-12am. E-mail dune to reserve your seat. (Raptor will certainly pass)

Urban Ops Performance Tip - Posted by RaPToR @ 8:10 a.m. EST
Dungheap from Rogue Spear Retreat posted a UO tip on his site. He said that while working on a recent project for the 3dR, I noticed that while playing UO using FRAPS he could get about 10 more fps (frames per second) if he played in the HUD view that has only the ammo counter and mini-map. Use the "+" key to give the full-screen view with the HUD. This performance tip might just be some fluke that happened on my system, but if you don't already use that HUD, give it a try and let him know if you notice any improvement. (Note: I have tried this view numerous times, and while I didn't notice much fps improvement, I like the fact that you get to view about 10% more of the area in which you are looking. Try it out for yourself and try it!)

Rogue Spear Mod Site - Posted by RaPToR @ 5:21 p.m. EST
Here's more evidence of the Rainbow Six popularity around the world: Hong Kong based Cyberman has recently redesigned his Rainbow Six Station site, which I think is one of the best Chinese language Rainbow Six sites around. He told me the purpose of his site is to share information, experiences, and secrets of R6/RS with other Chinese speaking gamers. The site is updated frequently and features the latest news about the R6 series. Check it out here/. You will need a (Big5) Chinese-enabled browser to read the site.

Voodoo 5 Shipping - Posted by RaPToR @ 5:13 p.m. EST
I am really sorry about the lack of updates for almost a week, but I have been really busy with several things. I will do a lot of news right now to get everyone all caught up. Anyway, this was posted on Rogue Spear Retreat:

I still get a bit nostalgic thinking about the good ol' days with my 4MB Diamond Monster add-on 3D card which first introduced to 3dfx's first-generation Voodoo Graphics chipset. (That card is now retired in my retail Voodoo3 2000 box :-) So please forgive me if I'm a little excited to hear that the Voodoo5 is finally shipping as indicated in 3dfx's official press release yesterday. However, the debut of the higher-end Voodoo5 5500 AGP left me wondering what happened to the Voodoo4 for those of us on a budget? Well, iXBT has a report that states the following: "3dfx announced May, 26 to be the release date of Voodoo5 5500 AGP cards. OEM versions of Voodoo5 5500 AGP will be available in a month simultaneously with Voodoo5 5500 PCI. The low-end card from this family, Voodoo4 4500, will ship in the beginning of July, its OEM and PCI versions - in the end of August."

E3 Covert Operations Information - Posted by RaPToR @ 7:38 p.m. EST
A few days ago, SpecForce.net reported that GamesDomain UK posted some useful information about Covert Ops from E3.
Players can earn certificates in various covert operation topics such as psychological profiling, hostage negotiation through a series of lessons and tests. Videos interviews of experts in the field of covert ops will be also be included to give the user special insight.

The nine missions will be designed in the same style as those found in the previous Rainbow Six games, with the game engine being a modified version of the Rogue Spear engine. Also packaged into the product will be a bonus section focusing on the making of the Rainbow Six and Rogue Spear games.
Sharky Extreme's preview of Covert Ops mentioned the following:
"The quizzes are lots of fun, asking things like whether to insert a team into an operations zone by parachute, sea, or land, depending on circumstances like enemy strength, weather, and time of day. Sorry folks, there were no screen shots in Red Storm's press kit ..."

GameSpy UO Review - Posted by RaPToR @ 7:38 p.m. EST
GameSpy has released their review of Urban Operations. Here is a clip:
The missions are awesome in their variety, and include the streets of a Turkish Bazaar, an abandoned factory district in Mexico, the Canals of Venice and a posh Hong Kong hotel room. Supposedly they're meant to focus on crowded public locations in which it was essential to keep from harming civilians, although only one of the five missions contains this element. All of the maps are of the same high quality as the original Rogue Spear maps; you feel as though these are real locations, authentic down to the minute details that make them feel as though these are living areas where people eat, work, and sleep.
Check out the full review here.

Next-Gen Rainbow Six Game - Posted by RaPToR @ 4:32 p.m. EST
As I had reported about 2 months ago on RSC, Red Storm Entertainment is developing a Rainbow Six game for Nintendo's Dolphin system. This video was posted on IGN which you can view here. The video looked extremely impressive and showcased exactly of what the Dophin should be capable. I should note that this video takes quite a while to download, even with a cable modem, so make sure you are willing to wait a while to watch it.

About the movie, Saffire has been recently promoting its new SAGE game architecture that attempts to make game development easier and quicker. This technology was recently shown at the Game Developer's Conference and onlookers where impressed. Saffire recently approached Red Storm Entertainment to make a "next-generation" game using their technology. The movie that was released was the prototype demo that Saffire showed Red Storm Entertainment. RSE wants to be perfectly clear that the movie is taken from a prototype demo designed to show the SAGE's next-generation engine, and while based on the Rainbow Six franchise, no such game is in development...yet.

RSE Tech Support Info & UO Memory Leak - Posted by RaPToR @ 5:26 p.m. EST
From posted on Rogue Spear Retreat:
I noticed on the RSE Forums today that there are still some people having problems with a memory leak and Urban Ops.

Gary Stelmack, QA Analyst at RSE, has posted a very informative thread about Tech Support Issues Help at the RSE Forums. Be sure to read it and you can notify RSE Tech Support at http://www.redstorm.com/support with regards to any problems you are experiencing.

I thought it might be useful for others to post this other extra tidbit of info Greg Stelmack previously mentioned about exactly what system info you should send with your problem. This may help Tech Support to identify the source of your problem. Here's an example of what I sent in a little while ago regarding a UO "memory leak" I personally experienced with a details about my current system setup that you can use as a reference if you need to contact Tech Support..

My current computer setup at home is [ Remember, this was posted on RSRetreat, this is CR6's comp, and I have a better one :-) ]:
- CPU/RAM: Pentium 200Mhz MMX/ TX chipset/ 128MB PC100 RAM
- OS version: Windows 95 OSR2/DirectX 7.0a
- Free hard drive space: Running Urban Ops on Drive D: (2GB total space with 670MB free space) BTW, I have NO problems running R6/RS/UO off drive D :-)
- video card and driver version: Voodoo3 2000 PCI with latest WHQL drivers (1.04.00 - Jan 27, 2000)
- Sound card and driver version: Sound Blaster Live! Value with latest drivers (Nov'99) & Live!Ware 3.0
- any other programs running in the background when playing Urban Ops (ICQ, VirusScan etc.)

I found this to be a repeatable problem (4-5 times) running Urban Ops: If run my desktop at 1024x768 32-bit color and I use CTRL+ALT+DEL to bring up the Task Manager and close all programs except Explorer, Systray, and Resource Manager, I then have 98% system resources free before starting up Urban Ops:

When I start the game using a desktop icon shortcut, the screen goes black (as normal) but then crashes back to the desktop at 640x480 16-bit color.. My system resources read 34% at this time -- this is likely the "memory leak" people are referring to. The simple solution to avoid this "memory leak" is to start the game from a 16-bit color desktop :-)

For the record, I got a personal response from Trent at RSE Tech Support by e-mail only 20 minutes after I sent my report in (that is apart from their automated form letter you always get). I can't guarantee that you will get a response that fast from RSE, but I think I must have caught them on a not so busy day, and I am one impressed customer with the fast reply :-)

Nothing very special about the page, but I just wanted to post the new page. You can visit it by clicking here or by clicking the link to the left. I also added a few more sites to the links section. You can visit the links section here or by clicking the link to the left. I would also like to ask you to send me an e-mail to tell me if any of the links on the other pages of the site are inconsistent from the rest. However, any links that you click that bring you to an unfinished Homestead page, that is an error, so e-mail me about that. Thank you all for your cooperation.

E3 Weekend - Posted by RaPToR @ 5:33 p.m. EST
It is finally E3 weekend, and Red Storm Entertainment has come out strong. For those of you who are not aware of E3, it is the Electronic Entertainment Expo located in San Francisco, California. E3 is the biggest gaming exposition of the year. It contains all the biggest game developers and showcases their upcoming games for 2000. Heading back to RSE (the developers of the Rainbow Six series), Snicker of Rogue Spear Retreat has been to E3 and went online to tell us about his experience so far. Here is a clip from Snicker on the Rogue Spear Retreat website:
Covert Ops is pretty much what we have already learned. It is a 2 cd set that uses the Rogue Spear engine to blend a wealth of tactical information with actual gameplay to complement the strategy you have just read about. RSE isn't showing off any of the levels at E3 and are just showing off the interface and the various information. A cool tidbit that I learned is that you will be able to play multiplayer with other people who have Covert Ops as well. It also doesn't require Rogue Spear to play.

Two other titles from RSE looking very promising are BANG and Freedom. Bang is a fast paced space shooter created by the French that has awesome eye-candy remenicsent of Rage's Incoming. The other sweet title was Freedom. This 3rd person game is built from the RS engine (using approx. 40% of it) and looks absolutely beautiful. The camera work for the third person view is great and the engine even features improvements such as mirrors! We have a lot to expect for the next engine in the R6 series :-)

It appears that a lot of the RSE team from RS are now working on an undisclosed Playstation 2 title. Carl Schnuur, producer for Rogue Spear, is now working on this title so expect to hear some news on it soon.

To learn more about the Electronic Entertainment Expo, visit their official website here.

Covert Ops E3 Information - Posted by RaPToR @ 3:42 p.m. EST
Crash from SIM HQ is posting updates from E3 in their message boards. Here is a tidbit about Covert Ops:
Sort of a prequel, you get to train/learn how to become a Rainbow operative. Very complete encyclopedia/training module. 2 Disk set, disk one is nine new extensive levels, disk two is the training. This game will stand alone, so this could be a good way to introduce new players to the family of games.

New Urban Ops Review - Posted by RaPToR @ 4:02 p.m. EST
Gear4Games has posted their review of Urban Ops. Here is a clip:
The name Urban Operations says it all. The settings for the game are in 5 new locations in the real world. Locations, in this game, range from a crowded market in Istanbul to an underground subway station in London. The texturing of the maps was done quiet right because it is one of Redstorm's strongpoint. One of the best extras that were included in the game were, innocent bystanders in the Istanbul market. With this kind of addition to the game, you and your team must place your shots very carefully not hitting one of the hostages or any bystanders.
You can read the full review here. Note: The cons they gave in the summary of the review are, for the most part, wrong. (That's my opinion.) Go check it out for yourself.

However, this week, I will be keeping the poll on the site for two weeks. This is because I have not received enough votes from visitors to the site. I mean, 1446 hits to the site, and only 29 votes? That is why I am keeping the poll up: So more people can vote for this poll, so please vote!

Urban Operations Sales -Posted by RaPToR @ 3:18 p.m. EST
The new release of the mission pack to Rogue Spear, Urban Operations, has brought many Rogue Spear fans to buy the new game. Urban Ops is number 5 on PC Data weekly best-sellers list for April 16-27. PC Gameworld UO Review -Posted by RaPToR @ 7:42 a.m. EST
PC Gameworld has released their Urban Operations Review. For those people who have yet to purchase UO, you should read this good review. The reviewer knows his Clancy series. Here is a clip from the review:
Urban Operations adds collateral damage -- oops, I mean innocent bystanders -- into the mix. Unfortunately, if you were envisioning massive firefights in shopping malls while soccer moms are running around in terror, you'd be wrong. For the most part only the first level, taking place in Turkey, has civilians going about their business. The fact that the bystanders weren't used more is rather disappointing. Still, the levels are enjoyable, from their layouts to the nice texture work. Yet with only two mini-campaigns you should expect to blow through them very quickly.
You can check out the review here.

Cool New UO Chemical Compound Tactics - Posted by RaPToR @ 4:07 p.m. EST
One of the new multiplayer maps for Urban Operations, the chemical compound, has some cool extras added to the map by the map's own designer, Travis Getz. He sent these tactics to Pie's Tactics. This article will really help in the success of a multiplayer match on this map. Here's a clip:

"If you shoot out the metal vents at the tops of the chimneys, you can throw grenades in there from the tops of the surrounding walls, between the towers. This creates a great effect for the fellas inside, as all of a sudden, this grenade comes down the chimney inside the glass "boxes" and then detonates, blowing the glass and making sparks fly from the electrical stuff!"

You can view the entire article from Pie's Tactics here.

Soon I will also have mods available on my site made by various people. Also, the United Mod Makers of RS Database have created a UO Map Pack, which can randomly reverse the start points for all of the Urban Ops maps, instead of having to switch teams to use the other insertions. You can download the version that overwrites your old UO Maps here or download the version that does not overwrite your old maps but adds to your list of map here.

Zone Upgrages? - Posted by RaPToR @ 10:23 p.m. EST
As some of you may have noticed, the MSN Gaming Zone was down for much of 4.20.00. On 4.21.00 I noticed unusually high latencies in both Rogue Spear and Urban Operations game rooms. Many of the people in these rooms had latencies below 100. This is very unusual, since not all people have fast modems such as cable or T1, as I do.

MSN Gaming Zone

I have heard from various sources that the higher latencies are linked to the Zone being down. The Zone was improving latency while upgrading on 4.20.00. That means less laggy games for all multiplayer gamers on the Zone. Sounds cool to me.

Site Updates, ST6 Clan News - Posted by RaPToR @ 8:47 p.m. EST
Sorry for not updating the news section in a while. I have been spending much of my spare time working on the weapons page, the about us staff page, fixing up the site's layout, adding links to the left margin, etc. There will be many more news updates in the future than previously. Some good news that has occurred is that our old leader, Chillin, of the ST6 clan, has rejoined the clan. So now we can resume as in the past. He will now continue his web designing with a brand new site based on the layout of this one. Go here to see it! An Urban Operations review will be posted on the site by me soon, so look forward to that!

Flash Intro, ST6 Clan Crisis, PS2 RS - Posted by RaPToR @ 3:27 p.m. EST
As you noticed, the site has a Flash 4 intro. This movie was not made by me, ST6_Raptor, but rather by Matt of Gamers-Edge. Check out his site today, it will be worth it! I am still playing Rogue Spear and Urban Ops often. Great games they are. My clan, Seal Team Six (*|ST6|*), is in a bit of a crisis right now. Our leader, Chillin, has left the clan to go to DeltaX. I will still be one of the admirals of this clan. We are trying to restart this clan, as many members have left. If you want to join, contact me on the Zone as ST6_Raptor. In other news, Red Storm Entertainment is planning on a Rainbow Six/Rogue Spear tactical game for the Playstation2. I will give more information on this game as it becomes available.

For those of you who are not aware, Urban Ops is the mission pack for Rogue Spear. This is much more than a mission pack, however. Stay tuned on the site for a review of Urban Ops by me, coming soon.

I will try my best to update the site with some of the important old news that was on my other site.
